Same Lesson, Different Story

I’ve been thinking, and I have a question for your mind.

If loyalty is so real, then why is water used to cook fish?

Just really think about it, the same thing they swim in fish their whole lives, the very same thing that helps us with our life, the very same thing that helps them live. And yet so many fish have met their end being cooked with that very same water. But now, thinking about it, how much do we do with people? It starts the same way you start to open up to a person: you tell them the things that make you strong, happy, the things that hurt you, as if blades were stabbing your heart. All those walls you made to keep people out, and now you start to open them. They listen to you; they help you when you need it; you might have even told them things you didn’t know about yourself. You didn’t share with them because you were naive; you shared because you trusted them. But that is the cruelest part about betrayal. It doesn’t come from strangers, people you didn’t know, or a random friend you just decided to tell all this to. It comes from the ones you trusted the most. The ones you let into your inner circle, the ones who you thought loved you, people who were closer to you than they should have been. Now look at you sitting there crying in your room, replaying every moment as if they were songs on repeat, and you think about how foolish you were. Wondering if there was something you missed, if you could have seen it coming as if you had a third eye telling you and just chose not to listen. But still, there is nothing but the feeling that makes you feel like you have been shot and you’re bleeding out.

You come to you so fast you don’t even realize when it strikes, taking everything you had you love, your friendship, and you know all the time was gone. That mask that they showed you and you didn’t think anything of it, just the warm feeling that we all want. Friendship, and now you are left with the sour taste that is betrayal, which at one point tasted like love. And you know what scares me the most about it? Everyone swears they want honesty, that they love the truth, but when it stares at you, showing someone who you at one point might have called a best friend. You blinked first, but if I were going to be honest with you, the worst part is.

You hate them for all they did when they don’t even think about you anymore, and you learned the same thing I did.  A fish that never opens its mouth, never gets caught by the hook of betrayal, and that right there is the scariest thing someone could go through.
