The Flower with Jaws

Print More

I walked through the garden
The bushes were thick and luscious
A trickle of sweat ran down my forehead
In the hot weather
Yet something felt off
I sat down on the bench
Catching my breath
I looked around the garden
Beautiful flowers bloomed everywhere
But one caught my eye
It was beautiful, deep red on the inside
And it had jaws
Ready to pounce
A flytrap
I stood up from the bench and resumed walking
Only to stop in my tracks
A man, standing by a tree
Was kissing someone
I stayed rooted to the spot
As the man tilted his head while kissing
I saw the man’s face
My husband’s face
The woman he was kissing turned
And I caught a glimpse
As if to sink the jaws of truth further in
I saw the woman
My sister
