We cry for thee, O Medusa
Queen of the Gorgons
Whose head turned those brave enough
To stone everlasting
Cursed by Athena
For the misgivings of Poseidon
Whose only companions
Were the snakes that adorned your crown
Whose life was one of solitude and loneliness
It was not your fault
You loved the man
Or that he loved you
The gods are too fickle
For mere mortals to understand
We cry for thee, O Medusa
Tricked by the merciless Perseus
Son of Zeus
To look into the shield
At your own face
So that he might return your head
To the one who cursed you
He did not understand the plight
Someone who spent their life
Weeping for company
And when it arrived
You would destroy it with a glance
You never meant to harm
You wanted to love
But the world was too evil
To unkind for someone as innocent as thee
We cry for thee, O Medusa
