Fragile Strength

Print More

Days and humans pass,
scraping the concrete with every step.
Thermal expansion blooms,
leaving a scar in the solid.

The imperfect sidewalk,
restricting paws and feet.
A scar of rebellion,
causing its own existence.

The earth remembered
what the pavement tried to hide.
Rain slips into it like a flowing river,
nourishing incoming roots.

Life does not ask for permission.
So the crack widens with each sunrise
not from weakness,
but perseverance.

A ruby orchid blooms from the crack,
painting defiance across the gray.
